A life dedicated to people.

To live a life for others is not easy. And those lives which are dedicated for the well being and  development of common people is to be most honored.
Today I was blessed to take part in the 100th birthday celebrations of a man who transformed this society to what it is now. Shri Viswanatha Iyer, is a name that no one here shall ever forget.
He was the first Panchayat President of Kumily and he truly deserved it. Years back when this region was just tea estates and hill area, a place where no one ever wanted to live, our Swamy(as we call him) was send here by his father to look after the tea estates. But he was entrusted an other duty, a duty to make the poor, uneducated labourers educated atleast enough to sign their names when they recieved their wages and to develop a primary health centre for them.
And Swamy  did not only fulfill his fathers aspirations but did greater things. He gave free land for the construction of 3 Government schools, post office, library, hospital and many other public institutions and involved himself to keep them functioning well. He himself gave life to a school as well. He is the man who brought telephone to this land. It was his vision to make this society a developed and civilized one and he worked for it tirelessly. 
His selfless helps gave a new face to this place years back and helped this society grow to a level what it is now.
I felt that it would be wrong to not to write about a great person, a great human being like him.
And I truly believe that his life and the love this people here have for him, makes us understand the meaning of life on this planet. Just to exist is easy, but to live for others makes our existence worth-while.
And again if it wasn't for selfless people who lived for us, I wouldn't have posted these lines..!!
